Entry requirements: To enter this program, students need to have a minimum IELTS score of 5.5 (no band under 5.0).

The IELTS Preparation Program is an intensive 10-week skill based preparation program for high-level students who require an IELTS test result for entry into postgraduate, undergraduate and foundation programs at an Australian tertiary institution.

The program includes familiarisation with all aspects of the IELTS test. Every two weeks students undertake a practice IELTS test in the same lecture theatre in which the formal IELTS test is held.

This is a full time intensive program to help students develop the reading, writing, listening and speaking and exam preparation skills related to the First Certificate of English exam. After completing the course, students can apply to do the formal exam in Melbourne or their own country.

• Development of specific writing skills in order to complete a range of tasks related to specific writing genres

• Strategies for faster and more efficient reading: skimming and scanning, detailed analysis of articles, recognition of inference and author intent

Vocabulary

• Listening for specific information, inference and intent

Speaking

• Expressing attitudes and opinions

Test taking skills

• Participation in regular FCE practice tests

The Certificate of Advanced English Preparation program has been specially designed for students who need the CAE certificate as recognition of their English proficiency for employment or tertiary study.

This intensive preparation course will help students to develop the reading, speaking, writing, listening and exam preparation skills related to the CAE test. After completing the course, students can apply to do the formal exam in Melbourne or their own country.

• Strategies for skimming, scanning and reading for detail

Speaking

• Development of communicative strategies through interactive speaking activities and authentic tasks

Writing

• Question interpretation, analysis, development of ideas, content organisation and grammatical accuracy in letters, essays and reports

• Strategies of listening for specific information and identifying broader attitudes and opinions

Test taking skills

• Participation in regular CAE practice tests

English in use

• Editing, text completion and guided writing
