Graduate Program in English as an International Language
This University of Melbourne coursework program offers awards at three levels:

  • Master of English as an International Language

  • Graduate Diploma in English as an International Language 

  • Graduate Certificate in English as an International Language


This is a Faculty of Education program that is delivered primarily at the University of Melbourne's Hawthorn campus.

Flexible Study
Students can complete four semesters for a Masters Degree or exit earlier with a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma.

Entry Requirements

The program is only available to students for whom English is a second or foreign language.

Applicants must have:
  • a recognised bachelor degree, or equivalent qualification, PLUS
  • an IELTS score of minimum 5.5 with no band lower than 5.0, or equivalent or TOEFL 523 paper/193 computer-based AND 4.0 in the essay writing

Only students with an average score of at least 65% in the first year of the course will be permitted to enrol in the second year.
