Library and Independent Learning Centre (ILC)
Hawthorn-Melbourne has its own library where students may borrow books and videos and read daily newspapers and journals. The library also has computer facilities for independent study and research.
Staffed by English language teachers, the Independent Learning Centre (ILC) is a self-access study area located in the library. Students are required to spend one hour per day in the ILC as part of their program.

Students work at their own pace under the supervision of the ILC staff. Activities available in the ILC include:
  • music – students are able to listen to songs and read the words;
  • script and tape work; and
  • computers with CD ROM facilities.

Learning materials are grouped and number coded on the shelves according to the level of English. Activities available include: lstening, conversation, pronunciation, dictation, vocabulary, computers, business studies, novels and audio tapes, reading, reading activities, study skills, grammar, writing, spelling, tests (IELTS practice: reading, writing, listening, speaking; TOEFL; TOEIC), course books, games and 'behind the news' material.
